The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist is established to support and further the functions of the Chief Psychiatrist under the Mental Health Act 1996. The activities of the Chief Psychiatrist are focused on quality, standards and improving outcomes for people requiring psychiatric care. The Chief Psychiatrist and the Office in the Department of Health are responsible to the Director General of Health and are administratively supported by the Business Unit of the Statewide Health Support Services based in Royal Street.

As directed by the Chief Psychiatrist the Manager and the Office ensure the delivery of programs and policies in line with defined objectives. The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist is comprised of four full time staff and one part time staff.

Clinicians are seconded to participate in specific projects. Carer and Consumer representatives are also involved in specific activities of the office.

The Manager oversees the operations of the Office and provides advice and support to the Chief Psychiatrist on activities and programs and other relevant matters.
